A Work in Progress...Don’t Know Yet How We Can Make This a Permanent Structure

This was a job to get set up and it stood perfectly well throughout the day and night. A storm, however blew in this morning. It poured rain and the wind was very heavy and having not yet concreted the feet into the ground as we do not know for sure where we want to put it, it blew completely out of the concrete blocks the feet were in. But on the days it is very windy, it won’t stand up even when the posts are concreted in. Luckily, we don’t have an awfully lot of wind here but in the spring, typically, so right now is a tough time to get it working and know how it will work. We’re going to try to use heavy sand around the feet with them in the huge concrete blocks until we determine how exactly we plan to use this carport. It is a wonderful concept but not one we want to take down and put up frequently.  We would prefer to be able to stand it up and if we roll up the sides, when windy, perhaps it won’t blow over. We don’t know yet as we had no support with it yet on that day and have not since tried. My son will be able, however, to use this for detailing cars as it is never good to wax a car in the beating hot sun. We also hope to use it as a shelter for large yard sales, but eventually, we’d like to use it as a carport, set up as something in which we can actually park possibly both cars, one behind the other. It is plenty large enough and the fact it has windows makes it a terrific design. Many have similar carports as these but this one is made to the specifications we like, is enormous (you can even order a larger one that is 10’ X 30’) for our needs, and the window placement makes it terrific to see out and see if the dogs are behaving or someone has arrived (if we’re inside it). We’re hoping to experiment with it and add some kind of sticky but durable tape, such a Gorilla Tape, that can be removed after use where Flex Tape is similar but won’t likely come back off after being stuck onto the metal pipes of which the frame is made. Nonetheless, if it does become terribly windy while this is erected and cannot withstand the wind, we can remove the cover leaving the poles intact, though we do hope to find a way to get it standing throughout the months and particularly bad weather to protect our vehicles from the environment until we can empty and finish the actual garages on our property. Even at that time, this a perfect structure, again for my son to detail cars and for us to hold yard sales or to just leave one car out and use the other garage as storage where theft may be an issue, such as lawn equipment. So far, we’re happy with this. We hope to know more soon.
